This morning, while I was on skype with Moni, she instructed me to visit the Hummingbird Bakery @ South Kensington and to have their red velvet cupcake. I’m so glad I heeded her advice!

Creme brulee @ Au Petit Salut

My girlfriends Steph, Geri and myself have a tradition which we coin our “friday special” when the girls take a friday off every quarter, and we spend the whole friday catching up. We’d gone to the spa, we’d visited flutes at the fort (which is lovely with all of its foliage) so with the latest friday special, we were running out of options and ideas!

In the end, our day began with brunch at Au Petit Salut. The creme brulee and profiteroles were pretty amazing, you should’ve seen our faces when we took the first bite! It was to-die-for. Then Steph zipped us off to the movies where we caught Despicable Me. While at the movies, all of us were trying our darnest to keep our eyes open (not because the movie was boring but we were unusually tired). Either age is catching up with us or it must have been our heavy lunch. I’ll like to think it was the latter! We headed to East Coast beach after for some beach-cycling. After some long distance beach-cycling, we proceeded (or rather huffed and puffed to) East Coast Lagoon Food Village where we filled our plates with chicken satay, wanton noodles, sambal stingray and the likes.

Our little tradition means a great deal to me and the both of them are really, the reason why 🙂

And I interrupt the radio silence on my part (exams) to say that Da Paolo has the best, best, best scones ever. Many thanks to Juliet and Karwei for bringing the humble, mega size, absolutely heavenly scone to my notice (and tastebuds). I’m not even a big fan of white chocolate but this one really takes the cake.

Yum.

This caramel sea salt brownie looks like heaven on a plate. Caramel + sea salt + chocolate = To die for.

I really really really want to bake a new york cheesecake like the one above.  I’ve heard conflicting opinions about whether I should go with a no-bake recipe or simply bake the cheesecake. This features high up on my post-exam plans!

This carrot cake with fresh figs was served for desserts at a beautiful wedding. Looks incredible don’t you think? I like how fresh figs were substituted for walnuts! I just had two warm custard provence wassants for breakfast but just looking at the cream cheese oozing out is making me awfully hungry…

This Zoku popsicle maker is right on top of my wish list and is THE single, coolest invention ever (pun intended)! Just imagine, you can have a popsicle whenever you feel like it. The maker also allows you to create a gadzillion combinations like orange and yogurt, cranberry + grape etc etc

P/S It is also affordable at USD 49.95 but it only ships to the US for now.

Cappuccino Cheesecake March 10, 2010

I had my first slice of cappuccino cheesecake from Starbucks last November and it was mmm… so good! I remember telling Su-mae excitedly that we must replicate the cheesecake.

And just the other day, during public law tutorial I was randomly blog-surfing and I stumbled upon a decadent cappuccino cheesecake by serendipity and my heart skipped a beat. It looks fairly simple and I can hardly wait to try it out!
